PRESS ALERT FOR MISSISSIPPI MEDIA
SENATOR COCHRAN ANNOUNCES UPCOMING MISSISSIPPI EVENTS

U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS) will speak at two events on the Mississippi Gulf Coast this Saturday, June 21, 2008.

At 1:00 p.m. Senator Cochran will speak at the launch of Gulfport Physical Oceanographic Real-Time Systems (PORTS®). The event will be held on the 14th floor of the Hancock Plaza Building in Gulfport, 2510 14th Street. PORTS® provides real-time oceanographic and meteorological information to commercial and recreational mariners so they can receive reliable navigational information for safe and efficient travel. This technology will improve efficiency and safety at the Port of Gulfport, which is the third busiest container port on the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. For further information contact Kate Bosley with NOAA at (757) 617-6520.

At 5:00 p.m. Senator Cochran will attend the MDOT dedication of a portion of U.S. Highway 90 to Dr. Gilbert Mason. Dr. Mason was a noted civil rights leader on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He was not only committed promoting equality through his own profession, where he advocated providing quality healthcare to patients, regardless of racial or ethnic background, but also throughout the community, as he campaigned for integration and voting rights. Senator Cochran will speak during the dedication ceremony, which will be held at the Biloxi Community Center at 590 Howard Avenue. For more information contact MDOT representative, Janet Sullivan, at (601) 810-8084.
